Dietringen at Lake Forggensee — the starting point for your holiday in the Allgäu.

The Landhaus Maldoner is located in Dietringen, a small district of Rieden on Lake Forggensee in the Bavarian Allgäu. The lake is just a few minutes' walk away, the Alps and Neuschwanstein Castle within sight. The perfect base for a relaxed holiday full of nature, culture and activities such as water sports, cycling and hiking.

The lake is your neighbour — reachable on foot in ~5 minutes from the house.

  • Dietringen bathing area with kiosk directly on the shore
  • Boat rental and sailing school (Forggensee Yacht School) within walking distance
  • Lake cruise Füssen ↔ Roßhaupten with a stop in Dietringen: from early June to early October, daily — ideal for a tour without a car
  • Surfboards, kayaks, pedal boats: directly at the lake
  • Swimming, stand-up paddling, sailing, surfing — Lake Forggensee offers everything

Lake Forggensee is often warmer in summer than many Alpine lakes — ideal for families.

Cycling & hiking

  • The Forggensee cycle trail passes directly by the house — a perfect starting point for one of the most beautiful cycle tours in the region (~35 km, mostly flat)
  • Numerous other cycle routes and quiet side roads through the Allgäu pre-Alpine landscape
  • Mountain bikers will find challenging tours into the mountains
  • Hiking: from easy circular routes through meadows and forests to demanding mountain tours — we have been out and about in the region as hikers and mountain bikers for years and are happy to give personal recommendations
  • Tegelberg (1,730 m): by cable car or on foot, magnificent view of Lake Forggensee and Neuschwanstein
  • Via Claudia Augusta milestone near the house — the historic Roman road runs along Lake Forggensee

In the heart of one of Germany's best-known tourism regions — the most important sights:

  • Neuschwanstein Castle – ~15 min. by car. With Hohenschwangau Castle and the St. Coloman pilgrimage church at its feet: a must-see.
  • Wieskirche (UNESCO World Heritage) – ~30 min. by car
  • Linderhof Palace – ~45 min. by car
  • Ettal Abbey & Oberammergau – ~50 min., ideal combined as a day trip
  • Füssen old town – ~8 km, easily reachable by bike

  • Tegelberg cable car (Schwangau): open summer and winter, starting point for hikes and paragliding flights
  • Breitenberg and Buchenberg: further cable cars with panoramic views
  • Paragliding from Tegelberg: spectacular view of Lake Forggensee
  • Summer toboggan run Tegelberg and Nesselwang: fun for the whole family
  • Zugspitze: Germany's highest mountain, ~1 hr. by car (Grainau)
  • Legoland Günzburg: ~1.5 hrs. via A7/A8 — for families with children

  • Musical "Ludwig 2" at Lake Forggensee (summer): spectacular musical directly at the original location, against a mountain panorama with Neuschwanstein in the background
  • Festspielhaus Füssen: musicals, concerts, guest performances
  • Village festivals in Rieden and Roßhaupten: brass band music, snacks, folk dances — from late June to mid-August

Gastronomy & shopping

Dietringen itself has no supermarket — but there is a kiosk at the bathing area.

  • Rieden (~3 km): shops, bakery, gastronomy
  • Roßhaupten (~3 km): supermarket, baker, butcher, inns
  • Füssen (~8 km): complete range of shopping, restaurants for every taste, weekly markets
  • Rustic places to stop in the area: e.g. Landhotel Schwarzenbach in Dietringen, Rainis Faulenseehütte, Lusse via Claudia in Roßhaupten, Drehhütte at Tegelberg or the numerous mountain huts in the Lechtal, the Ammergau and Allgäu Alps.

Winter

Dietringen is also worthwhile in the cold season:

  • Cross-country ski trails within walking distance
  • Tegelberg, Pfronten, Reutte, Tannheimer Tal and Nesselwang: downhill skiing, ski touring and night skiing
  • Frozen lakes for ice skating (in suitable weather conditions)
  • Quiet winter hiking trails and alpine meadows
